The biggest Napoleonic fortress of Italy!
A jewel set on Lake Idro
The Rocca d’Anfo is a system of military fortifications of great historical and scenic interest. It occupies an area of about 50 hectares on the western shore of Lake Idro (BS), near the ancient border between Lombardy and Tyrol, between Valle Sabbia and Valli Giudicarie.
The Fortress
The biggest Napoleonic fortress in Italy, a unique element in terms of size and historical importance.

A very evocative place, more than you would expect.
The guide was able to extensively tell the story of this mostly visitable fortress. Especially the part that cannot be seen from the outside by entering the soldiers' rooms, with the possibility of conquering the fortress from its underground interior.
A whole afternoon is needed.
The visit lasts a comfortable 4 hours in this walk through history, between green forests and ancient walls dating back to 1400.
I recommend comfortable walking or trekking shoes plenty of water and plenty of stairs.
Amazing fortress. A piece of history and a perfect example of war engineering. The guided tour is essential to understand the importance and grandeur of this place. Giuseppe, our guide, was brilliant and exciting, giving us amusing moments but also several food for thought...
